Sea lion shooter and his/her parents should be punished
To the “archer” who shot and killed the sea lion on July 24, 2010: I hope that, upon your capture and subsequent conviction and sentencing, you receive the maximum fine, to be levied upon the folks who reared you, and you receive the maximum prison sentence.
Offended by depiction of Palin in comic strip
I am offended by Garry Trudeau’s “Doonesbury” comic strip. In my opinion, it is unfit for a community family newspaper.
I don’t object to a little political satire in the comics. Al Capp and Johnny Hart used to do some of that with humor and reasonable good taste. However, Trudeau’s depiction of a Sarah Palin caricature plotting the murder a young girl is so far out of line it is not funny. Literally not funny.
Troop Support enters 7th year
Troop Support appreciates the efforts of Wendy’s Beauty Salon and its staff who donated recently to our funds. Charlotte Fleshman, hair stylist, planned the successful fundraising event; she is also one of the officers at Emblem club where she and all the members do so much for our care box program.
The last several months have been very sad for us, an encroaching malaise that casts a blue haze in our lives when we hear and read about the concerns here and across the country about safety and health problems of our loved ones at war.
It really puts a tremendous effort on me to be cheerful as we start our seventh year when I experience all this.
Help us Thursday to clean up Harrington House yard
For those who have driven by Harrington House, located on the corner of El Dorado and Harding streets, you will have noticed the landscape has become weed chocked and overgrown.
On Thursday, a community service crew lead by Ron Wormuth, director of men’s services for Jordon Recovery Center, and volunteers from Rural Human Services, will spend the day cleaning up the yard. Additional help is always needed. Please join us at 8 a.m. and throughout the day.
The efforts lead by Jordan Recovery Center and Harrington House volunteers will be a visual improvement to this area of town and all that drive by. We hope to see lots of community members who believe in the work we do and can devote a few hours to improving our community’s resource center and shelter for victims of domestic violence and their children.
Do not allow passengers to ride in the back of trucks
With summer here I would like to remind everyone to please not allow passengers in the back of pickup trucks without camper tops.
I just celebrated what should have been my sister’s birthday a week ago. Sadly, while riding in the back of a pickup truck on a freeway with no camper top, she fell out onto an on-ramp below and lost her life, with many bones broken. She was trying to move around in the back of the truck while it was being driven down the freeway.
A family member who was the driver witnessed what could of been a preventable accident and has yet to stop remembering such a tragedy. I am still witness to children and adults being transported this way.
