Our representatives sent our money to help San Francisco

I would like to thank Kelly Schellong and Martha McClure for their hard work on the ad hoc committee for the Del Norte County Solid Waste Management Authority board. You both were very thorough and researched each proposal in-depth. It is truly a shame your fellow board members couldn’t be as honest and dedicated to this community as you both are.

Unlike the Triplicate editor’s opinion (“Two solid firms to choose from,” July 17) mine is that our community lost a huge amount. My husband was one of the Hambro employees who were fighting to keep our money here at home to support a local company and our community.

As our schoolteachers are getting laid off, our roads getting bigger pot-holes, our harbor rotting away and friends losing their jobs, we watched our representatives send our money to help San Francisco.

Thanks to those who helped us help others during difficult times

In gratitude I offer a big thanks for many who have pitched in recently making a difference in difficult times here in Del Norte County by assisting our ministry helping us to provide hope in Jesus and while providing for emergency needs through our food bank and other services.

We appreciate the work of Chetco Federal Credit Union for being a great local financial institution and for its help with our fireworks fundraiser. Chimney Craft, thank you for your help with our fireworks fundraiser.

Thanks to Our Daily Bread Ministries for your selfless generosity in helping us set up for our fireworks fundraiser. Thanks to Recology Del Norte for ongoing assistance with garbage collection.

Any savings is good, and Hambro’s bid was cheaper

Are Hambro Group and the citizens of Del Norte County really being misled or is bad information being spread regarding the decision of the Solid Waste Management Authority Board?

Yes, Hambro does have companies in Arcata, Lenoir, N.C., and Grants Pass Ore. In each of those companies the employees employed in those areas kept there jobs. The profits of each of those companies return to Del Norte County, which is where the parent company Hambro Group, Inc. is located (unlike Recology, which traces its origins to San Francisco).

Recology (Nor Cal Waste Management) is the parent company to two dozen subsidiaries providing solid waste services to more than 50 communities and the exclusive service provider in San Francisco.

Julindra helps community too

I started in the recycling business in the early 1970s when Anheuser Busch distributors started recycling aluminum beverage cans. During the intervening 40 years, Julindra Recycling continued to expand the types of items accepted for recycling. I was a green business long before that term came into being. In 2000, recycling became my sole line of business.

In 2004, I became involved in diverting recyclable materials from the Del Norte County waste stream as a part of Recology’s free curbside recycling program. My company recovers and sorts all the curbside and dropoff-point recycle items Recology Del Norte receives. Through this partnership, I’ve been able to increase my overall recycle volume by one-third and help increase the waste diversion for Del Norte County.

Julindra Recycling, a local company, is part of the recent Request for Proposal (RFP) awarded to Recology Del Norte. I am committed to continuing to provide cost effective recycling services to my home community. My staff has grown roughly 44 percent as a direct result of our involvement in the waste stream recycling since its inception.
