How can a few tire ruts in the sand be labeled ‘egregious’?

I consider myself a conservational conservative and I am appalled at the statement made in our paper by Dr. Peter Douglas. Dr. Douglas, a member of the National Academy of Sciences Committee on Science and Policy for the Coastal Ocean and one who serves on the China-U.S. panel on integrated coastal management. He stated in your March 4 article (“‘Rogue behavior’ cited”), and I quote him, “This is the most egregious violation by a local jurisdiction that I have ever seen in the history of the Coastal Commission.”

Vaccinating children not about laziness/selfishness but choice

This letter is in response to the Feb. 28 letter written by Sarah Dumas (“Horribly selfish not to vaccinate”). Vaccinating your children is not about laziness or being selfish.

Don’t jeopardize Talking Crow

Regarding the March 2 article (“Harbor, studio in dispute over rent proposal”), Talking Crow Studio is the best addition to Del Norte County in years! It is all about art, sharing art, and has been a labor of love created by Rika Blue.

It’s a shame when a single mom has to replace vandalized tires

It is a shame when a single mom who is a full-time student and part-time CNA has to spend over $500 on a full set of new tires.

Not because they were worn and unsafe. Two of the tires still had 70 percent of the tread on them.

This mom is struggling to have the time and money to do everything that is needed day to day. To wake and get ready to go to work only to find that not only do you have a flat tire, you have four.

Positive attitude coming back after high school program

I moved to this city last July 1 with a very positive attitude about retirement and the future. I originally thought I would be writing various upbeat letters to the editor, but alas everything I have seen and read appears to be negative.

City Council members stabbing each other in the back. The Marine Life Protection Act (these have to be Bay Area people) comes in and threatens to ruin many people’s livelihood. The Department of Fish and Game puts new laws in effect (just who were these people whose input they listened to?)

Let the off-roaders have a little bit of beach at Kellogg

Combining horses and ATVs is a dangerous situation. I understand both sides of this dilemma.

I have been riding ATVs and dirt bikes for three years now, and since I moved to Brookings the only place to ride on the sand would be up in Coos Bay, two hours away.
