Pages of History: Wife, kids, money and cook gone!

The second chapter of the sad story of Joseph Febrache, 49, was being written this week. Just out of jail on an assault charge brought by his wife, he found his bank account in a sad state. Checks were bouncing right and left.

Febrache had pleaded guilty to the assault charges, he said, because it would cost a lot to hire a lawyer to fight it. “I’d never hit a woman,” he told the Triplicate yesterday.

The money on deposit in their joint account was gone. So was Mrs. Febrache and the three children. So was the money from their restaurant at the Greyhound bus depot. So was the man who had been working as their cook.
