Pages of History: CC native goes through his 2nd world war

From the pages of the Del Norte Triplicate, February 1945.

This really is the second world war for George W. Roberts, a 43-year-old Indian soldier from Crescent City now serving at a U.S. Army station hospital in England. He is a night-duty non-commissioned officer, and has been overseas for the past two years.

In February 1918, he enlisted in the Balloon Observation Corps, which is the Air Signal Corps today. Because of his four years of National Guard military training, he was made a sergeant and arrived overseas in June 1918, going directly to Brest, France.

He saw action in the Toule sector, near Metz. At that time his group was the only one equipped with parachutes.
