Pages of History: Crab case could have wide impact

From the pages of the Del Norte Triplicate, January 1963.

Scheduled to begin Tuesday in Crescent Judicial Court are proceedings which could affect commercial fishermen all along the coasts of Northern California and Southern Oregon.

Indications have been heard that the case, which on the surface only involves two Brookings fishermen, might be appealed all the way to the California Supreme Court or higher.

The two fishermen, Sam Sprague and Arnold Badger, are charged with illegally crab fishing in California waters of Pelican Bay. The say they were not in California waters; California game wardens say the reverse.
