Warrior Memories: She excelled in the infancy of girls’ sports

Writing this week’s column brings back a lot of great memories from my Warrior days.

Barbara Babich, a 1949 Del Norte High School graduate, is another of those female athletes that never had the opportunity to really showcase her athletic talents like our present girls.

There were no interscholastic sports for girls back then, so she didn’t have the chance to put on the red and white of the 1949 Warriors and perform before a gym full of loyal fans as Del Norte girls get to do now.

Barbara was very active in the sports that were offered during physical education class time and during games played at lunch time. She played volleyball and basketball and was good at both.
