Most people now, when they hear the name Bob Cochran, think of him on the stage playing an important role in a local stage production put on by our local theater group, or in the courtroom as a prominent attorney, or doing something for his local church, Grace Lutheran.
I have great respect for Bob in all of these situations, but being the Warriors sports nut that some know me as, I like to think of Bob wearing the blue and gold of Del Norte High School and playing in the mud on the local gridiron or running up and down the floor of Thunen Gym as a member of a Warrior basketball team.
Bob played both football and basketball while a student at Del Norte. He started his football career playing for the Warrior junior varsity and moved up to the varsity as a junior, where he played on a team that defeated the Eureka Loggers 7-6.
When football season would end he took to the hardwood. Being an ex-coach, I know what a time commitment playing high school sports can be, but with this commitment Bob still devoted a lot of time to other school activities.
The respect that his fellow classmates had for him showed often as he was regularly elected to class or student body offices during his entire time as a Warrior. With everything else that was taking his time he still was a regular member of the California Scholastic Federation.
