It is fun for me to look back at Warriors that were playing at Del Norte while I was still at Crescent Elk.
This was a time when the Warriors were still wearing red and white and football helmets did not have face masks. Del Norte football jerseys were made of wool, and as I later learned, were miserable to wear.
One player I really admired and looked up to was Bud Pyke. When Del Norte High School brought 11-man football back in 1946 after dropping the program for a period of time during World War II, Bud was a junior at Del Norte. He immediately took over the starting quarterback position, a job he held for two years.
