Sign-ups for Rec Dept. basketball has begun

Sign-ups for the Del Norte County Recreation Department Adult Basketball League has begun.

The season begins on March 9, with upper and lower divisions available. Games will be played on Monday and Tuesday nights.

The team fee is $500 with the registration deadline on Feb. 27.

A team can be register at the Recreation Department, located at 1005 H St. in Crescent City. For more information call 464-7237.

CR girls soccer team looking for new players

The new coaches for the girls soccer team at  College of the Redwoods are looking for soccer players for this fall.

If you or someone you know are planning on attending CR either in Crescent City or in Eureka and are interested in playing college level soccer, please contact Del Norte High School girls varsity coach Clar Byers for more information regarding this opportunity at  541-251-1493.

Huskies roll over Warriors 73-21

For four quarters the Fortuna Huskies were relentless against the Del Norte Warriors Thursday night, scoring at will and causing 30 turnovers for the game.

When all was said and done the Huskies handed the Warriors a  52 point loss in Big 5 Conference action.

During their first meeting in Fortuna on Jan. 21, the Warriors led in the first quarter before losing 63-46. While they lost, Warrior head coach Buzz McCulloch was pleased with the way his team played against one of the elite squads in the Big 5.

Thursday night was another story as Del Norte lost 73-21.

Crusaders hand Warriors fourth straight loss 63-47

Senior Lesley leads team with 16 points

EUREKA — It was a rough outing for the Warriors on the road Wednesday evening.

Facing St. Bernard’s  of the Little 4 Conference, Del Norte High struggled to stop the Crusaders, who are undefeated in the Little 4, as the Warriors fell 63-47 to drop their fourth straight contest to go to 7-9 for the year.

Senior Andrew Ayers of St. Bernard’s paced his team with 26 points in a dominating performance.

Soundly defeat Crusaders 68-44

The Del Norte High girls varsity basketball team dominated the proceedings to earn a much needed victory Tuesday night.

The Warriors, who had not won a game since defeating Hoopa on Jan. 5, cruised to a 68-44 home win against St. Bernard’s of Eureka.

The game was a true team effort as four Del Norte players scored in double figures and the entire squad saw playing time and contributed to the victory.

“Nice” was the first words head coach Buzz McCulloch used to describe the win. “The girls were ready to play. That was a good boost for us. The girls played really well.”

The Del Norte High girls basketball team came quite close to earning its first Big 5 Conference win of the year Thursday night.

Unfortunately, the Eureka Loggers were able to score during the end of the game to win 55-50 and send the Warriors to 0-5 in the Big 5.

“It’s totally disappointing,” head coach Buzz McCulloch said. “They played their hearts out.  We just can’t seem to finish games.”

After getting crushed by the Loggers in Eureka on Jan. 14  50-22, the Warriors came out fired up on their home court.
