Blue Bombers win the CFL East Division title |
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers won the Canadian Football League East Division title for the first time since 2001 on Saturday. Buck Pierce, a 2000 Del Norte High graduate is the starting quarterback for the team. While the Bombers lost 30-24 to Calgary on Saturday they earned the East title because Montreal lost to the B.C. Lions on Saturday. Winnipeg finished the regular season 10-8, the same as Montreal, but won the tiebreaker by winning the regular season series 2-1. Pierce was unable to play due a right knee injury. He is expected back for the East finals at home on Nov. 20 against either Montreal or Hamilton. “Things are on schedule and I feel a lot better….whatever the next game would have been I was preparing for that,” Pierce said Monday afternoon in a Winnipeg Free Press article. Pierce said that he had “no question in my mind,” that he will be back under center for the finals. If Winnipeg wins they would earn a berth in the Grey Cup. be played this year in Vancouver. |
