Warriors track and field starts season

The Del Norte High track and field team begins its season at 4:30 p.m. today with the Brookings-Harbor Icebreaker meet in Brookings. 

In addition to the Warriors and the Brookings-Harbor Bruins, the other known participants in the meet are Pacific High (Port Orford, Ore.) and Coquille (Ore.) High.

DN boys tennis defeats Ferndale 

The Del Norte High boys tennis team split six singles matches against Ferndale High and won two of the three doubles matches to defeat the Wildcats, 5-4, on Saturday morning at Del Norte High School.

Blair Westbrook and Daniel Quick each won two matches for the Warriors. 

Westbrook defeated Ferndale’s Ryan Klopper, 6-2, 6-2, in the No. 1 singles match and teamed up with his brother, Alec, to defeat Klopper and Kien Pham, 6-4, 7-5, in the No. 1 doubles match.

Quick beat the Wildcats’ No. 4 singles player, Kyle Isaacs, in a three-set match, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4. At No. 2 doubles, Quick and Doug Ovick again went three sets, defeating Isaacs and Ryan Isaacs, 6-1, 5-7, 6-1.

Cameron Douglas recorded the fifth victory for Del Norte, defeating Ryan Isaacs, 6-3, 1-6, 6-4, in the No. 5 singles match.

Pham defeated Alec Westbrook, 6-3, 6-4, at No. 2 singles, and Ferndale’s Corabelle Esmailian topped Del Norte’s Christian Wong, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 6 singles. Ovick lost his No. 3 singles match to the Wildcats’ Nicole Vollmer, 6-0, 6-2.

In the No. 3 doubles match, Vollmer and Esmailian of Ferndale defeated Douglas and Wong of the Warriors, 6-1, 6-1.

Del Norte (2-1 overall) hosts McKinleyville today at the Del Norte High School tennis courts.
