Grizzlies compete at Bobby Goss TourneyThe Del Norte Grizzlies American Legion baseball team took part in the Bobby Goss Tournament this past week. The squad opened the Eureka-based tourney on Thursday with a 9-1 loss to Northern Humboldt and a 3-1 loss to Eureka. On Friday, the Grizzlies fell to Red Bluff 12-1 and to Oroville 10-1 on Saturday. Del Norte started the week on Tuesday by splitting with Southern Humboldt on the road. They lost the first contest 5-1 and won the second game 13-7. The Grizzlies are currently 3-10 for the year. Head coach Eric Enos said that his young team has struggled getting hits and reducing fielding errors, making more than eight errors in two games at the Bobby Goss Tournament. Enos said that his team has the talent to improve but they need to continue to make progress and be more consistent. The majority of the Grizzlies players are 16 and 17 years old, compared to the other teams, where many of the players are 18 and 19 years old, Enos said. Tentatively, Del Norte is scheduled to play Northern Humboldt at a home doubleheader at Del Norte High School starting at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. On Thursday, the Grizzlies will face Eureka on the road and on Saturday will take on Grants Pass, Ore., in Bookings. A number of Del Norte players are from Oregon.
