The CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bombers have undergone some changes entering the 2013 season.

Most notably, the Bombers will showcase their new digs in their home opener, today at 6 p.m. Pacific Standard Time against the Montreal Alouettes. Investor’s Group Field in downtown Winnipeg seats 33,500 fans.

Tim Burke began the 2012 season as Winnipeg’s defensive coordinator and became interim head coach on Aug. 25, 2012. Management removed the interim tag from Burke’s title in the offseason.

Furthermore, three of the four quarterbacks that took snaps for Winnipeg last season are no longer with the squad.

Only Buck Pierce remains.

Pierce, a graduate of Del Norte High and New Mexico State, enters his ninth season after a rough 2012 that saw him miss 11 games with knee, head, foot and shoulder injuries.

Pierce has regained his health and has lost about 20 pounds, according to Winnipeg media reports.

“My answer (to health questions) is talk to me after this year,” Pierce told reporters at the start of training camp. “There’s nothing I can do or say, there’s no answer. All the negatives, I look at them and try and learn from them. That’s all I can do. I don’t dwell on it.”

The Blue Bombers finished last in the CFL in yards and points per game in 2012. A healthy Pierce will go a long way away from that.
