DN Warrior girls and boys soccer teams lose

The Del Norte High boys and girls soccer teams both suffered losses at Arcata on Saturday in Humboldt-Del Norte Conference play.

In the girls contest, Del Norte fell to the Tigers 11-0. The boys squad lost 6-0.

The girls team dropped to 1-12-2 overall and the boys squad is at 4-6-2 for the year.

In the girls game, head coach Clar Byers said two key defensive players were hurt. Hana Dykes suffered an ankle injury and Ali Joy had a back and neck injury and was taken to the hospital. Byers said Joy was OK and had a neck strain.

In the boys contest, Del Norte struggled from the start and were down 4-0 at the half.

Head coach David Sanyaolu said they had several players unable to play on Saturday.

“We didn’t play up to our capabilites,” he said. “We reverted to (our) old ways of booting the ball instead of showing composure and passion.”

The boys team ends the regular season Wednesday at home against Ferndale. The contest begins at 2:30 p.m. at the high school soccer fields.

The girls team plays Ferndale at 4:30 p.m at the soccer fields at the high school. The team will have one more game after that, a home contest next Tuesday against Illinois Valley of Oregon.

On Wednesday, the graduating soccer seniors will be honored.
