DN Warrior girls get an unexpected late game |
The Del Norte High girls varsity basketball team expected to face Branson in a first round match at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the three-day West Coast Jamboree in Dublin in the Bay Area. When they arrived that morning, head coach Buzz McCulloch was surprized to find out from tournament officials that the game time had been changed to 8:30 p.m. The decision was made on Monday. While disappointed they were not made aware of the change, McCulloch said that they were ready to go out and face Branson. Because the game started late the score was not available by deadline. The Warriors left Crescent City on Tuesday and stayed for the night in Santa Rosa before heading to Dublin. If they were made aware of the change, McCulloch said that they would have left on Wednesday morning to save money. If Del Norte was victorious on Wednesday they will play in the winners bracket at 7 p.m. Thursday. If they lost they are set to play at 1 p.m. today. Del Norte was 3-5 for the year heading into the tournament. After the tournament concludes Del Norte will next take on St. Bernard’s of Eureka on the road Jan. 3. The Warriors will finally play at home for the first time this year on Jan. 19, when they face fellow Big 5 Conference opponent Arcata. –– Triplicate staff |
