DN Warrior soccer teams fall to Eureka on the road |
The Del Norte High boys and girls soccer teams fell to Eureka on the road on Saturday. In the boys game the Warriors took a 2-0 lead before losing it. In the 12th minute of the first half, Jose Ramirez scored, assisted by Jorge Ramirez. In the fifth minute of the second half, Jorge Ramirez scored on a penalty kick. After that the Loggers got on a roll and came away with the 5-2 victory. “We were two goals up but things went downhill after conceding a goal early in the second half due to a defensive error,” head coach David Sanyaolu said. “That goal, coupled with forced substitutions due to injuries and tiredness of key players, I’d say, led to the collapse.” Del Norte fell to 3-4-2 for the year. Despite losing, Sanyaolu was happy with how his team competed against one of the best teams in the Humboldt-Del Norte Conference. “Overall, the boys fought hard with great willpower, organization, swift attack and relentless defending on display,” he said. “They were awesome, really. I am proud of them, the result notwithstanding.” The boys team next plays on Saturday at home at 11 a.m. against South Fork. In the girls game, the Warriors lost to the Loggers 9-0. On Thursday they lost to Illinois Valley of Oregon on the road 3-0. On Wednesday, the girls team faces St. Bernard’s of Eureka at home starting at 3:30 p.m. as they seek their first win of the year. |
