CRESCENT CITY — Two matches, two three game victories for the Del Norte high volleyball team this week.

After dismantling Eureka Tuesday night, the Warriors were at it again when they faced Fortuna in the last regular season game at home on Thursday. Del Norte won 25-13, 25-14, 25- 22.

"The team came out ready to play," head coach Meagan Curtis said. "The team wanted to make a statement and was ready for whoever played in their gym."

The Warriors are 6-0 in the Big 5 Conference, where they have not lost a game since 2005, and are 18-8 overall.

This season, Del Norte has won all but one of its Big 5 matches in three games. The lone exception was a tight five-game match against McKinleyville last week.

Before the game, on senior night, the squad honored the lone senior on the team, Deja Hartwick.

Game 1 started out quite well, with Del Norte seemingly putting up points at will and containing any Fortuna rally.

At one point, the Warriors had a commanding 14-4 lead and continued to dominate on the way to the 25-13 victory.

In game 2 it was more of the same, as Del Norte was relentless in its attack. Th girls did a good job passing to each other to set up plays and to block any Fortuna balls coming their way. The Warriors easily took down the Huskies 25-14.

"We just kept attacking," Curtis said. "We hit the ball hard every time."

Game 3 was going well for Del Norte, holding onto a 17-8 lead after scoring nine straight points.

The Huskies proceeded to get into a groove and rallied off nine straight points of their own.

But Del Norte was able to withstand any Fortuna comeback and pulled off the game 3 win.

Lisa Daniels had eight kills for the Warriors. Ashley Owen chipped in seven kills, while Kaylie Rook, Katie Rinkevicz and Krista Haban had three kills each. Jaclyn Hadfield had five blocks for kills.

In the junior varsity game, Del Norte defeated Fortuna in two games.

Next week, the Warriors finish up the regular season on the road. Tuesday, they travel to Arcata and on Thursday meet up with McKinleyville.

After the final two matches, the Warriors will have some time before the North Coast Section playoffs begin. The games are not set to begin until Nov. 13.
