GOLD BEACH, Ore. The Del Norte High girls volleyball team earned a non-conference victory against Gold Beach, Ore,. on the road in three games Thursday night.
The Warriors won 25-23, 25-22, and 25-21.
For the season, Del Norte is 17-8 overall and 4-0 in the Big 5 Conference.
Del Norte was coming off a nearly disastrous game on Tuesday.
Playing a conference game against McKinleyville, Del Norte found themselves down 1-5 in the fifth and final game before coming back for the victory at home.
Del Norte has not lost a Big 5 game since 2005.
Warrior head coach Meagan Curtis said it was good for her team to play a non-conference game and work to get back on track.
She said the team played "better," but was not as sharp as they were in the first three Big 5 games of the year, when they totally dominated their opponents.
A problem was that the communication on the court was still erratic at times.
"When we have communication break downs we tend to have errors," Curtis said, saying her team has not been as mentally focused as usual this week.
A key reason, Curtis believes, is homecoming week and the activities and excitement that go along with it.
She said the team needs to regain their focus for next week.
After practices on Saturday and Monday, Del Norte will be back on the court. On Tuesday, they face Eureka at home.
Tabitha Hillman had 17 digs for Del Norte, while Mary Timoshenko had eight digs and Jessica Morrow had six.
Deja Hartwick had 20 assists. Ashley Owen had 11 kills, Lisa Daniels had six kills.
In the junior varsity game, Del Norte lost its first game. The team came back to win the next two games to win the match.
