DN Warriors take part in tournaments
Boys go 0-3 in Redding while girls go 0-3 in the Bay AreaDel Norte Warrior BoysThe Del Norte High boys varsity basketball team finished 0-3 at the “Jamie Angley” Hornet Classic at Enterprise High School in Redding. On Wednesday Del Norte opened the tournament with a 59-30 loss to regional power Foothill. On Thursday, the Warriors a very young team with only three returners, struggled against Central Valley and lost 70-51. Del Norte trailed 41-25 at the half and were never really in the contest Darian Simpson led Warrior score with 10 points. Collin Taylor finished with eight points. On Friday in the seventh place game against fellow Northcoast Section Division III team Kennedy of Fremont Del Norte lost 55-39. While the Warriors were in the game for three quarters Kennedy pulled away in the final quarter. Del Norte trailed by only 24-19 at the half and 39-33 after three quarters before Kennedy got hot in the final quarter as the Warrior struggled to score. Aaron Fitch led Del Norte scorers with 10 points with Doug Ovick had nine points and Colby Japp had eight points. Del Norte fell to 3-7 for the year. De Norte next plays at home on Wednesday, Jan. 4 against Little 4 opponent St. Bernard’s of Eureka starting at 7:30 p.m. On Jan. 6 they will open the Big 5 season at home against McKinleyville. Del Norte Warrior GirlsOn Wednesday, Del Norte faced Branson at the three- day West Coast Jamboree in Dublin in the Bay Area. Del Norte was crushed 60-18. Emma Card led Warrior scorers with nine points. On Thursday, Del Norte faced St. Helena. While the Warriors play greatly improved, they still lost 36-28. Card again led the Warriors with 18 points. On Friday, Del Norte lost to Exter, 40-28. Card again led the team with 16 points and was named to the all-tournament squad. The Warriors fell to 3-8 for the season They will take on St. Bernards of Eureka on the road on Tuesday. The Warriors have a long wait to finally get to play at home. The first home game of the year is not until Jan. 19, when they face Big 5 opponent Arcata.
