DN boys JV team earns 44-42 win against Hoopa |
The Del Norte Warriors boys junior varsity basketball team withstood a late rally by Hoopa to end the 2011 Warrior Classic with a 44-42 win on Saturday. Del Norte had a 36-21 advantage with 6:22 remaining in the game, but Hoopa would not go away. But the Del Norte Warriors did enough not to let Hoopa take away the lead. At the buzzer, Hoopa drained a 3-pointer as Del Norte escaped with a two-point win. Head coach Jeff Cook said that while he would have liked to have seen the team play more consistently in the final quarter, he was happy overall with their performance. “Defensively we played really well,” he said. “I was relly happy with the way they were getting after it,” Brandon Japp had 10 points and five rebounds for Del Norte. Del Norte finished 2-1 at the tournament and improved to 4-5 for the season. The squad will have the rest of the year off before resuming play against St. Bernard’s at home on Jan. 4. |
