The Warriors struggled against the Huskies, who for years has been one of the better teams in the league.
“They are a good team,” Del Norte head coach Buzz McCulloch said about Fortuna. “They are tough and big. They killed us on the boards.”
A highlight was the honoring of the four Warrior seniors before the start of the game.
Those honored were Sydney Benson, Kara Marcinek, Shauna Ratnour and Brianna Wakefield.
Benson and junior Taylor Cleland led Del Norte scorers with eight points apiece.
To start the game, Del Norte hung with the Huskies in the first quarter and midway through trailed 9-7.
Del Norte started to struggle getting shots to drop in and were unable to grab rebounds as the Huskies began to pull away. By the end of the quarter Fortuna had extended the lead to 21-9.
In the second quarter, while Del Norte was able to get it to 25-15 midway through, Fortuna had a 31-17 lead at the half.
In the third quarter, Cleland was able to drain a three-pointer with 4:34 left in the third to reduce the lead to 36-22. The Warriors scored only a single point the rest of the quarter and trailed 46-23 at the end of the quarter.
In the fourth quarter the Huskies continued to extend the lead on their way to the 28-point victory.
Other Warrior scorers were Ratnour with six points and Emma Card and Brittany Maready with four points apiece. Marcinek had two points and Wakefield had one point.
The Warriors fell to 3-16 overall and 0-7 in the Big 5 while Fortuna improved to 6-3 in the Big 5 and 13-11 overall.
The Warriors junior varsity team lost to the Huskies 41-37 while the freshman team also lost. Del Norte ends the season on Friday with a road game against Arcata.
