The Del Norte High boys tennis team’s struggles continued in Saturday’s home match against Arcata High.

The Warriors dropped their fifth consecutive match to the Tigers, 8-1.

Del Norte senior Blair Westbrook, the Warriors’ No. 1 singles player, accounted for the team’s only win — just as he did in Del Norte’s March 7 match at Arcata. Westbrook defeated Hayden Parker of the Tigers in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5.

Arcata’s Forrest Lewis defeated Alec Westbrook of the Warriors, 6-4, 6-3, at No. 2 singles. Del Norte’s Doug Ovick lost to the Tigers’ No. 3 singles player, Philip Palsson (6-0, 6-1), and Warriors freshman Cameron Douglas lost the No. 4 singles match to Arcata’s Nash Karp (6-2, 6-2).

Lewis and Parker of the Tigers teamed up to beat the Westbrook brothers, 6-4, 6-4, in the No. 1 doubles match. Ovick and Douglas lost to Palsson and Tyler Courtemanche of Arcata in the lone three-set match of the day, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4.

Del Norte forfeited the No. 5 and No. 6 singles matches, as well as the No. 3 doubles match, due to a lack of players.

The Warriors and Ferndale High canceled a tennis match originally scheduled for Tuesday due to a lack of players available for both teams. Del Norte High coach Sara Miller said that the match will be rescheduled at a date to be determined.

The Warriors (2-6 overall) continue their season today at 3:30 p.m. with a road match against McKinleyville High. Del Norte returns to its home courts on Tuesday, April 2, when Eureka High comes to Crescent City.
