The Del Norte High Warriors boys varsity basketball team will take on the McKinleyville Panthers on the road Monday night in a first round game of the Dick Nicali Memorial Tournament

The postseason event, which features squads from the Big 5 and Little 4, begins at 7 p.m. at McKinleyville High School.

This will be the third time the teams have meet this season.

Del Norte lost the first meeting 41-40 in overtime on the Panthers home court on Jan. 26.

Thursday night in Crescent City, Del Norte earned an exciting 56-54 victory. With around 10 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Warrior junior point guard Layton O’Reilley caused a turnover, snatched the ball and raced down the court. He threw a pass to senior Zach Hegelmeyer, who was next to the basket, as he put the ball in with around four seconds left to give Del Norte the win.

With the victory Del Norte finished the regular season in a tie for second place in the Big 5 Conference, with each finishing at 5-3. Arcata came in first place with a perfect 8-0 record.

After Friday’s game there was a coin toss to see where the contest would be played, with the Panthers winning the coin flip.

Del Norte is 10-11 overall while the Panthers are 16-6.
