Errors on the field and inconsistent hitting doomed the Del Norte High baseball team on Wednesday.
At Arcata, the Warriors lost 4-3, to drop to 5-8 overall, and 0-3 in Big 5 Conference play.
"Basically, we gave them the game," head coach Pablo Lorenzi said.
In the first inning, the Tigers pounced out of the gate, taking a 1-0 lead. In the second, the Warriors tied up the score at one each.
In the third, Del Norte scored in a run to take the lead 2-1.
With runners on second and third and only one out, Lorenzi said this was the perfect time to score and take control of the game.
But the Warriors could not capitalize and the inning ended.
"That's a blown opportunity right there," Lorenzi said
In the fourth inning, Arcata took control of the game, scoring three runs, including a solo home run to take a 4-2 lead. A major reason for the runs scored was fielding errors, Lorenzi said.
In the fifth inning, Del Norte scored a run, but was unable to start a comeback.
Lorenzi said Evan O'Brien pitched a good game, but did not get needed run support
The team is having a mental block the players need to overcome if they want to do well in conference play, Lorenzi said.
The Warriors have nearly a week to get ready for the next game. On April 25, Del Norte plays at home against Fortuna.
