Del Norte JV baseball team defeats Brookings twice |
The Del Norte High Junior Varsity baseball team swept Brookings/Harbor on the road Saturday. In the first game, the Warriors had to go to extra innings, defeating the Bruins 15-10. The second game went much smoother for Del Norte, as the squad took care of Brookings 15-1. In the first game, Zack Hegelmeyer pitched well and contributed to the win, head coach John Valdez said. Austin Holt hit the game-winning three run double in the eighth to ensure the win. Joey Yeoman was a "Speedy Gonzales" on the basepaths, earning 20 stolen bases in both games, Valdez said. To top it off, Yeoman also pitched a complete game in the second contest. "We played well," Valdez said. "I think we're coming around to where we need to be as a team." The JV team next plays today, weather permitting, against Hidden Valley, Ore., at 1:30 p.m. at home at Peterson Park. The varsity team also is scheduled to play the Hidden Valley varsity team at 1:30 p.m. today at the high school if it does not rain and the field is not too wet. The Warriors varsity squad did not play over the weekend, but had a great game on Friday, defeating Grants Pass at home 7-5, thanks to a tenacious all around team effort in the second game of a doubleheader. The Warriors lost the first game 15-4. Triplicate staff |
