The Del Norte High baseball team defeated Ferndale High and lost to McKinleyville High on Saturday at the Arcata Baseball Tournament in Arcata.
The Warriors’ record dipped to 4-5 overall after a Friday loss to Clear Lake High of Lakeport at the tournament.
In the first game, Del Norte’s bats lit up the Wildcats’ pitching staff for 13 runs on 12 hits in a 13-5 victory.
Dylan Pease went 2 for 3 with three runs scored and three RBI for the Warriors, and Aaron Fitch went 2 for 3 with two runs scored.
Josiah Johnson, Nathan Porter, Ryan Gomes, Austin Healy, Chris Bray, Steven Maready, Casey Nelson and Juan Chavez each had one hit for Del Norte.
Jonathan Calderon allowed three runs on three hits, striking out three, in four innings to pick up his second win of the season.
In the second game, Del Norte held a one-run lead on McKinleyville entering the bottom of the fifth inning, but the Panthers scored three runs to capture the tournament’s consolation championship with a 6-4 victory.
The Warriors took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but McKinleyville responded with three runs. Del Norte scored the next two before the Panthers’ final push.
Josh Barrega went 1 for 3 with a triple and a run scored. Porter, Bray and Pease also accrued hits for the Warriors.
Maready worked a complete-game 10-hitter, with six strikeouts, as the game’s losing pitcher.
Del Norte continues its season Wednesday with a trip to Redding for the Central Valley Field of Dreams Tournament. Game times and opponents were unavailable at press time.
