The Del Norte High volleyball team came out with determination and focus Thursday night, crushing Brookings-Harbor on the road in three games 25-9, 25-15, 25-9.
On Sept 4. in the season opener for the Warriors, the squad barely got by the Bruins, winning at home in five games.
"This was way, way, way better," head coach Meagan Curtis said, adding her squad came out executing and playing the right way. She said the girls were determined to go to Brookings and play the way they know they are capable of.
Curtis said the tournament the Warriors played in on Saturday in Yreka was a great way to come together as a team.
In that tournament, the team played several matches from around 9:30 in the morning to past 7 at night.
The majority of the matches were two games and did not count toward the regular season record. Two of them were three game matches and did count. Del Norte finished 1-1 and is currently 3-1 for the year.
Curtis said the tournament was a great way to figure out the best lineup to go with and work any problems out.
For Del Norte, Lisa Daniels had eight kills, while Ashley Owen had six.
Kaylie Rook had five blocks, three of them were for kills. Curtis commended her for the outstanding play and said the junior, who played junior varsity volleyball last year, has really stepped up her game this season and is becoming a key contributor to the team. Jessica Morrow had six aces, while Deja Hartwick had five aces. Tabitha Hillman finished with 11 digs.
Del Norte will next play at home Thursday against Hidden Valley, Ore. Because renovations are still continuing in the main gym, the contest will be played at the small gym at the high school. JV begins at 5:30 p.m. and varsity will begin afterwards.
