All-Stars play again tonight
Through two games in the District 26 Baseball 9-10 All-Stars Tournament, only the weather has slowed down the Del Norte Little League All-Stars.
Giovanni Gonzalez scored off an O.J. Calleja single in the sixth inning as Del Norte topped the Eureka 9-10 All-Stars, 5-4, on Monday night in Blue Lake.
“It was real rainy, nasty conditions,”‚ÄąDel Norte coach Rich Goudelock said. “What they did today was, they played together as a team. Everybody contributed.”
Damian Dowd, the last of five pitchers Goudelock used in the game, struck out two while retiring the side in the sixth inning to pick up the win. Dowd also singled in the game.
Jaydin Henderson, Brock Reagen and Gabriel Provencio each had a hit for Del Norte, which jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never let Eureka lead
In Del Norte’s first game Sunday, five pitchers combined to shut out Klamath/Trinity Little League of Hoopa, 28-0, in four innings Sunday. The game had been scheduled for Saturday but was delayed due to rain.
“We dominated,”‚ÄąGoudelock said. “They struggled with their pitching; they gave up a lot of bases on balls.”
Anthony Slayton went 4 for 5 for Del Norte, and Henderson went 2 for 4 with two triples against Klamath/Trinity.
Del Norte moves on to play either Eel River Little League or McKinleyville Little League; the result of that game, held Monday night, was not available at press time. Del Norte would advance to the championship game with a third consecutive win.
