Del Norte tennis team looks sharp in victory

The Del Norte High boys tennis team was able to bounce back from a defeat at Arcata on Tuesday to gain the victory against Ferndale 6-3, at home on Thursday. Head coach Kirk Olesen said getting a victory was nice after being swept by Arcata, considered the best team in the area, 9-0, in the season opener for both teams. "Everyone played pretty well," he said about Thursday's matches. In the first match, Blake Polidore garnered the victory against Jimmie Griggs 6-3, 6-2. Olesen complimented Pomidore on playing well throughout the match. In the second game, David Standring dominated Eli Gurnee 6-0, 6-0. "He's got a big serve and played very well," Olsen said about Standring In the third match, Ben Tell of Del Norte lost to Trevor Nesvold, 6-3, 7-6 ( 7-5), 6-0 His coach said Tell just had a bad game and believes he is determined to work hard and to bounce back during Saturday's match versus McKinleyville at home. The Warrior's Tyler Pitman defeated Ferndale player Zach Leonardi 7-5, 8-6. In the final two singles matches, Chad Richins defeated Gabrielle Durrett 6-0, 6-0, and Joel Bruhn got the win against Kristina Hindley 6-1, 6-1. In doubles action, Polidore and Standring won against Griggs and Nesvold 8-4. Angelo Yates and Alex Choy of Del Norte lost 8-2 to Gurnee and Leonardi, and Hong Hetz and Christian Alexandre of the Warriors lost to Durrett and Hindley 8-5. – Triplicate staff –Triplicate staff |
