Former Warriors do well for CR at tourney

Two former Del Norte Warriors are making contributions to the basketball teams at College of the Redwoods in Eureka.

On Sunday, freshman Jalen Coney scored 20 points off the bench for the men’s squad in an  86-78 loss to Southwestern Community College at the seventh annual Coach Tregs Corsair Classic.  He went 6-for-6 from the free throw line.

“That’s the best I’ve ever seen him play,” CR head coach Justin Mora said in a Eureka Times-Standard story. “He’s one of the best athletes on the team and he showed it today.”

For the year, CR has won one game. On the women’s side, CR downed Southwestern Oregon 59-50 on Sunday at the Corsair Classic 59-50 to improve to 5-2 for the year.

Freshman Kristyn Rook, a former Warrior, had four points, including a 3-pointer.

Unfortunately, another former Warrior has had his season end early. Former Del Norte standout Nick McBride, a freshman on the CR men’s team, is out for the year with a broken hand.
