Girls soccer squad earns 1-1 tie: Boys team falls |
The Del Norte High girls soccer team tied South Fork 1-1 on the road Wednesday after dropping its first three games of the year. The Warrior boys soccer squad struggled against the Cubs, falling 4-2 to drop to 0-2-1 for the year. In the girls game, South Fork scored first in the 23rd minute. Warrior head coach Clar Byers said that his team had four shots on goal in the first half, all by senior Molly Lambert, but she could not get the ball in the net for a goal. In the second minute of the second half, Lambert connected for a goal to knot things up. While the team had seven shots on goal in the half, they could not score again as the game ended in a tie. “We were all over them in the second half,” Byers said. “We just couldn’t put in our shots.” In the boys game, head coach David Sanyaolu said that his squad was off their game and played lackluster, not passing well or gelling with each other. “We have had better games,” he said. “Things just didn’t go well.” In the first half, South Fork took a 2-0 lead. Around 10 minutes into the second half, Del Norte came back on a goal by Jose Ramirez, who was assisted by Juan Chavez. A short time later the Warriors had a penalty kick opportunity and Jorge Ramirez capitalized with a score to knot things up and get Del Norte back in the game. But the comeback was shortlived as the Cubs were able to score two more times. On Saturday, both teams travel to Fortuna. The boys game is at 11 a.m. while the girls start at 1 p.m. |
