Girlssoccer team loses opener

The Del Norte High girls soccer team opened up the season with a 4-0 loss to fellow Big 5 Conference opponent McKinleyville at the Eye of the Tiger tournament in Arcata Friday afternoon.

Head coach Clar Byers said the team allowed three quick goals in the first 11 minutes, but settled down and started to play better.

They did not allow another goal until right before the end of the game.

Byers said the game was a good experience for the team, especially for the newer players to gain game experience.

Due to previous commitments, only 12 of 18 girls were able to play. The Warriors participation in the tournament was only recently finalized. Del Norte is set to play two games today.

First, in the early bird match, the Warriors take on Analy at 8 a.m. Originally, Del Norte was to play Rancho Cotate, but they were moved to another bracket. At 11 a.m., Del Norte will play fellow Big 5 member Eureka.
