Golfer Benson takes part at championship

Del Norte High golfer Sydney Benson took part in the Northcoast Section Meet of Champions in Livermore on Monday. The event, which features the best golfers from the NCS, is one step away from state. Benson, a senior, did not qualify for state, finishing with a score of 102. She made it the furthest of any girls golfer in Del Norte history, head coach Cris Rice said.
“It was a good season for Sydney and a good experience for her,” Rice said. To make it to the Meet of Champions, Benson shot a personal best score of 90 at the NCS qualifiers the previous week. She qualified for NCS by taking 8th overall in the Humboldt-Del Norte Conference. Fellow HDN golfer McKenzie Ford of McKinleyville had an excellent day on Monday. She just qualified for state with a score of 75. |
