Grizzlies fall at Ore. tourney |
SALEM, Ore. Facing a team consisting of only college players, the Del Norte Grizzlies American Legion team hung tough in a loss on Thursday. Playing at an American Legion tournament in Salem, Ore, Del Norte fell to the Portland Cavilers 6-0. Grizzlies head coach Eric Enos said starting pitcher Evan O'Brien had "an awesome game." O'Brien pitched five innings, striking out five and giving up only one run. Enos said the problem was that, although his team had scoring chances, they could not score any runs to support the good pitching. But, he said, he was proud of the way the Grizzlies played against a team consisting of only college students. Del Norte has a mixture of players from those entering 11th grade to those who are in college. Kevin Walsworth went 2-for-3, while Kyler Davis was 1-for-3 for the Grizzlies, who fell to 8-18 for the season. Del Norte faces a squad from Corvallis this afternoon at the tournament, which concludes on Sunday. The squad will next play at home on Tuesday in a doubleheader against Southern Humboldt starting at 3:30 p.m. |
