The Del Norte baseball team struggled offensively against McKinleyville on Monday, as the Warriors lost both games of their home doubleheader, 12-1 and 6-1, to the Panthers.

McKinleyville limited Del Norte to three hits in the first game while scoring eight runs in the final three innings to put the game out of reach.

While the Warriors’ defense kept McKinleyville in check early, throwing two runners out at home from the outfield, the offense struggled to keep pace.

Joshua Barriga went one for two with a walk and a fourth-inning RBI single. Ryan Gomes doubled for the Warriors, and Ignacio Moreno singled and reached on an error. Nathan Porter scored Del Norte’s lone run of the game.

The Panthers jumped out to an early lead in the second game, going up 5-0 after the third inning. Porter scored the Warriors’ only run after drawing a sixth-inning walk, stealing second, advancing to third base and coming home on a wild pitch.

Juan Chavez singled to give Del Norte its only base hit of the game.

The Warriors (0-10 overall, 0-9 Humboldt-Del Norte League) travel to Eureka for a Wednesday game at 4 p.m.
