Hoffman looks strong in BYU victory over UH

Cody Hoffman and the Brigham  Young Cougars ended the regular season in grand fashion on Saturday.

Facing the University of Hawaii on the road, Hoffman, a redshirt sophomore from Crescent City, had seven catches for 123 yards and a score in the 41-20 win, which was broadcast live nationwide on ESPN2.

Hoffman turned a lot of heads with his one-handed 38-yard touchdown grab in the third quarter. Quarterback Riley Nelson was being pursed by a defender and just got the ball out at the last second for a highlight-making play.

“It is one of the best plays that I have ever seen,” head coach Bronco Mendenhall said in a story in the Salt Lake Tribune. “They had a corner coming unblocked from Riley’s backside, so somehow Riley got out of that, was kind of stumbling, then sees Hoffman and makes a delivery. I don’t know how he does it. Then Hoffman stretches as far as he can stretch with one hand, and brings it in. It is one of those plays, for those who watch ESPN, probably ought to be one of the plays of the day or whatever they call that. It was a great play.”

Hoffman also had two kick returns for 60 yards total. For the year, Hoffman has 821 receiving yards and seven touchdowns. He also has 838 kick return yards and a touchdown

BYU improved to 9-3 overall and will end the season on Dec. 30 against 8-4 Tulsa in the Armed Forces Bowl in Dallas.
