Jared Neff, left, and his father John Neff, right, of Paradise, caught their first Smith River steelhead trout on Tuesday with fishing guide Kevin Brock. Jared Neff, 12, even got to take home the hatchery steelhead pictured here. Steelies on the Smith should continue to be good through the weekend, Brock said, but with steadily dropping river levels, Brock estimates bank fishermen will have luck heading up South Fork and boat anglers should fish the whole river below the forks. This is the best season in years for steelhead on the Smith, according to USAfishing.com.
