Del Norte High School was home to the second of three middle school track and field meets on Tuesday. Athletes from Redwood, Smith River, Crescent Elk and Azalea in Eureka all competed in the meet.

Smith River won the eighth grade girls team competition with 104 points, 16 more points than second-place Redwood. The Crescent Elk eighth grade scored 57 team points for fourth.
In the seventh grade girls team competition, Redwood was able to get the win, scoring 157 team points and beating second-place Azalea by 21. The Smith River seventh graders took third with 80 team points and Crescent Elk scored 30.
The Redwood girls won every single seventh grade race except the 1500. Julia deSolini won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, Kaleya Sanchez won the 400, Makayla Howie won the 800 and Ariana Castro took both the 100 and 200 meter hurdles.
In the boys competition, Azalea swept both the seventh and eighth grade team competitions. The Redwood eighth grade team took second place with 136 points with Smith River scoring 67.
The Smith River seventh grade boys edged out Redwood for second place 101.5 to 62. Crescent Elk didn’t have any boys compete in the meet.
Middle school track will be back at Del Norte High School on Wednesday for the final meet of the season.
