Pheasant hunt slated for juniors

A free special pheasant hunt for junior hunters will take place Oct. 26 at Lake Earl Wildlife Area.

There will be two separate hunts, one in the morning and one in the afternoon with 16 apprentice hunters for each hunt.

Adult volunteers will lead groups of hunters into the field.

Junior hunters must have previously completed a Hunter Safety Class, be under the age of 16 and be accompanied by a non-shooting adult.

Apprentice hunters can bring a dog, and there is no cost for the hunt if your name is drawn.

To apply for the Apprentice Junior Hunt, go to California Department of Fish and Wildlife’s website (dfg.ca.gov),
click “hunting” under the recreation tab, and then click online application for special hunts” in the upper right-hand corner.

For more information, call (707) 498-9072.

All shooters and non-shooters must wear shooting/safety glasses and blaze orange, and must initial and sign a waiver for the hunt.

Participants are encouraged to wear appropriate gear for the hunt and bring water, a hat, sturdy shoes/boots, a sweater/jacket, and a cooler with ice for birds.
