Del Norte Youth Football’s first weekend at home could not have gone better for the organization as a whole.

DNYF’s five teams outscored their opponents from Curry Youth Football of Brookings and Southern Humboldt Youth Football of Redway by a combined 124-12 in Sunday’s games at Mike Whalen Field.

The DNYF A Gold team was the first to play, against Southern Humboldt’s A squad. Del Norte shut out Southern Humboldt, 32-0, to improve to 3-0 this season.

“The kids played very well,” Berry said. “I’m very happy for them. (It was a) total team victory.”

DNYF AA Gold’s Lane Bohannon caught a 20-yard touchdown pass from Ethan Price in the second half against Southern Humboldt AA to boost the Warriors to a 13-6 victory. Cole Harper had a 60-yard rushing touchdown in the first half for Del Norte.

“In the second half, we played much better defense and much better on the offensive line,” AA Gold head coach Jesse Puente said.

DNYF AAA improved its record to 3-0 in Sunday’s third game, defeating Southern Humboldt AAA 33-6.

The DNYF A White team recorded its third shutout of the season, defeating Curry A 20-0 in the fourth game of the day.

DNYF AA Blue capped the perfect day with a 26-0 victory over Curry AA. Raylee Markussen deflected a pass late in the first half that Jeremiah Norbury intercepted and ran into the end zone for a touchdown. The Warriors then “kind of blew them out in the second half,” scoring three more touchdowns, according to coach Mark Thogmartin.

“Our goal is to get better every week,” Thogmartin said. “They’re slowly picking it up. They’re getting it. We have everybody playing good.”

For the second week in a row, Del Norte Youth football will play its home games on Sunday. The schedule, as follows: A Gold vs. Curry A, 8 a.m.; AA Gold vs. Curry AA, 10 a.m.; A White vs. McKinleyville Youth Football A White, noon; AAA vs. McKinleyville, 2 p.m.

DNYF AA Blue has a bye week and will play next on Sunday, Sept. 30 against Arcata Youth Football AA in Arcata.
