QB Pierce hurt during CFL football match |
Former Del Norte High quarterback Buck Pierce was injured during a game Friday night. Playing for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the Canadian Football league, Pierce, the starting signal caller, injured his right knee in a 27-22 loss to Toronto. Pierce will likely miss the regular season finale at Calgary on Saturday. If the 10-7 Bombers win, they will earn the East Division title and earn a first round playoff bye, which would give Pierce more time to heal and perhaps play. If Winnipeg loses and Montreal, which has the same number of losses falls, Winnipeg would still earn the division and the bye since the Bombers won the season series. If Winnipeg loses and Montreal wins than Winnipeg would not win the division or earn a bye. When Bombers head coach Paul LaPolice was asked in a Sunday Winnipeg Free Press article if the injury could keep him out longer than the Calgary game he replied: “We’ll know more later in the week . . . I don’t think it’s a major injury, put it that way." Pierce, a 2000 Warriors graduate played his college ball at New Mexico State. He has played professional football in the CFL since 2005 and with Winnipeg since last season. |
