Recreational Groundfish Season has opened

Recreational Groundfish Season opened June 1 in the North-Central California Coast Region. Sport anglers seeking the rockfish and other groundfish can fish from boats between southern Humboldt and San Mateo counties. Open through Nov. 30, the region between Cape Mendocino and Pigeon Point is the state's last section to open for the year to the popular fishery. Daily bag and possession limits total 10 rockfish, cabezon and greenlings, in combination. Sublimits exist for bocaccio, cabezon and greenlings. Cowcod, yelloweye and canary rockfishes may not be retained at any time. For complete groundfish fishing regulations, refer to the 2007 Ocean Sport Fishing regulations booklet, available wherever fishing licenses are sold, or visit www.dfg.ca.gov/regulations. For up-to-date information on groundfish regulations and possible in-season regulation changes, call the recreational groundfish regulations hotline at 831-649-2801 or go online to www.dfg.ca.gov/marine.
