Redmond, Lund, Gavin named all-league selections in basketball

Del Norte High boys basketball players Bryce Lund and Scott Redmond and Kristie Gavin for the girls team were named to Humboldt-Del Norte basketball Big 5 All-League selections.

Redmond and Lund, both seniors, were team leaders and were the teams top rebounders and scorers.

Gavin, a senior, brought leadership and scoring to the Warrior girls squad.

Juniors Chad Freeman and Cliff VanHook made the honorable mention team for the boys squad. The two guards made many nifty places and clutch 3- pointers during the year.

On the girls side of the ball, freshman Lauryn Lesina and sophomore Michelle Stacey made the honorable mention squad. Lesina made an instant contribution to the team in her first year of high school, making many clutch shots and being the leading scorer on many nights.

Stacey was a tenacious rebounder and presence inside the paint on both offense and defense.

The Del Norte boys squad finished second in the Big 5 Conference this year. They were eliminated in the first game of the Dick Niclai Tournament at home to Arcata. Even with a 15-10 record and a second place conference finish, when the selections were announced for the Northcoast Section playoffs, the Warriors were not on the list. The team finished the regular season with a 15-10 mark.

On the girls side, the season ended with only six wins and 16 loses. A few contests ended in last-second defeats, including a heartbreaker with only a few seconds left at Arcata.
