Del Norte golfers take part in championship

Del Norte High senior golfers James Morrow and Luke Polidore competed at the Northcoast Section  Tournament of Champions in Contra Costa on Monday.

Morrow finished with a 79 while Polidore shot a 90.

Only the top four individual placers and top three teams earned a berth in state. Will Brueckner of Acalanes was the top individual with a score of 72 and Foothill was the top team.

To qualify for the NCS championships, Polidore placed fifth and Morrow tied for 10th at the Northcoast Section Division I qualifier at the Sunol Valley Golf Club in the Bay Area on May 9.

The Del Norte golf team finished in second place in the Humboldt-Del Norte Conference this season.


Former Warrior Hintz earns conference title

Former Del Norte High standout Kelsy Hintz, class of 2008, has won the Mountain West Championship in the pole vault.

Hintz, a sophomore at San Diego State University, cleared 13-04.50 feet to take first place in the 17-person field on Friday in Fort Collins, Colo.

Hintz will next compete in the NCAA West Regionals in Eugene, Ore., starting on May 26.

Del Norte United sign-ups are coming up on Wed.

 

Sign-ups for the Del Norte United F.C. fall 2011 Soccer League begin this week.

The first registration is from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gordi Bros., located at 723 Elk Valley Road. Other registration dates will be on May 25 and June 1, 8, 15, and 22.

There will be no refunds after June 30.

The registration fee is $50 and new members need to bring a copy of their birth certificate.

Del Norte Youth Soccer sign-ups set for Saturday

 

Sign-ups for the Del Norte Youth Soccer Association are continuing.

The league is for boys and girls ages 4–14.

The next sign-ups will be on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Joe Hamilton School.

The cost is $60 per child.

All players must provide proof of birth date and bring a certified birth certificate, state ID, or passport. Hospital certificates are not accepted.

A parent ot legal guardian must be present to sign the registration form.

There will be a $25 late fee for anyone who signs up after June 12. There will be no refunds after June 30.

The final sign-up will occur at Joe Hamilton on June 8.
