DN girls tip off in Arcata today
The Del Norte girls basketball team gets back on the court today with a trip to Arcata.
The Warriors are 9-8 overall but are still looking for their first league victory of the season, sitting at 0-4 halfway through league play.
Del Norte biggest league loss of the season came against Arcata the first time the teams met in Thunen Gymnasium. Arcata outscored the Warriors 46-31 that night.
The Tigers are currently tied with Fortuna atop the league standing at 3-1. Arcata is 16-3 overall this year.
Warrior boys at home against Tigers
The Del Norte boys basketball team returns home tomorrow. The Warriors will kick off the second half of league play against Arcata in Thunen Gymnasium.
Del Norte is working towards its first winning season since 2010-11, when the Warriors finished 21-6 and were co-Big Five Conference champions. Currently, the Warriors are 8-8 and sit at 2-2 in the conference.
Although Del Norte sits at .500 in the league, they are in a tie for second place with Eureka. Fortuna has a commanding lead in the race for the title sitting at 4-0.
Arcata enters the game with a 10-11 overall record and they sit at 1-3 in the HDN Big 5. The Warriors bested the Tigers 46-35 in the first meeting between the two teams, played in Arcata.
The varsity game will begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. immediately proceeding the freshmen and junior varsity games.
DN Little League deadline nears
Registration is open for the 2014 season of Del Norte Little League baseball and softball at the Crescent City Fire Protection District building at 255 Washington Blvd. until Saturday.
The building is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Registration is also available online at www.delnortell.com with an extended deadline to apply of Feb. 16. Anyone who registers online before Saturday will receive a $10 discount.
Little League players must be at least 4 as of May 30. Baseball players must not be older than 12 by the same date. Softball players must have been younger than 16 as of Dec. 31, 2013.
Registration is $60 for T-Ball, $70 for the Minor Division and $80 for the Major Division. Parents who sign up multiple players will also receive a $10 discount on each player.
First-time players must provide a birth certificate and three separate types of proof of residency documents to register.
