EUGENE The local semi-pro football team, the Wild River Storm, opened the season on the road with a 47-7 loss to Eugene, Ore., on Saturday.
The Storm played on a freezing, cold night that had snow flakes blowing, head coach Dick Trone said.
"It was the first time the team had been together totally in pads for a full contact workout and the rust showed," Trone said. "Mistakes that were made are all correctable."
Trone said they were several good performances by Storm players. This includes good defensive performances by Mick Zeck and Jeremy Lacy.
The Storm plays its first home game of the season on Saturday against Springfield, Ore., at 6 p.m. at Mike Whalen Field on the Del Norte High School campus.
