Tennis squad wins match at home 5-4

The Del Norte High tennis team was able to pullout a close 5-4 victory over North Coast Prep at home Thursday afternoon.

The win moves the Warriors to 5-3 for the year.

In the first singles match, Blake Polidore of Del Norte lost 6-4, 6-2 against Mack Madonick of North Coast.

In the second match, David Standring had to go three sets 2-6, 6-3, 6-3, to gain the victory over Jonvan Alten of North Coast.

In the third singles match, Warrior Ben Tell went three sets with Justin Prall-Preston, but could not come up with the win, losing 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.

Tyler Pitman, the No. 4 player for Del Norte, defeated Tim McIlraith 6-4, 7-5.

Warrior Chad Richins earned the win against Cabb McIlraith 6-2, 6-1.

Joel Bruhns of Del Norte lost to Sterling Johnson-Brown 6-2, 6-3.

In doubles play, Polidore and Standring defeated Madonick and Prall-Preston 8-5.

Tell and Pitman won against Alten and T. McIlraith 9-7.

In the third and final doubles match, Richins and Bruhns lost to North Coast 9-7.

On Tuesday, Del Norte had a strong showing, defeating Fortuna on the road 6-3. The first time the teams met, Del Norte lost 7-2.

On Saturday, Del Norte faces quite a challenge as they face Arcata, the top team in the area.

The first game of the season, Arcata defeated the Warriors 9-0.
