Despite scattered rainy weather on Saturday, the Brookings Rotary Invitational went on, with several Del Norte High participants earning first place finishes
Kelsy Hintz earned first place in the girls 100-meter dash with a time of 12.90 seconds, and placed first in the pole vault with a jump of 11.6 feet. Head coach Scott Lindsay said it was a good vault, considering it was in the rain.
In the girls discus, Rebecca Cink placed first, while Jessica Slayton garnered first in the high jump with a jump of 4.10 feet. The boys 4x100 relay team garnered first place.
Other standouts included the girls 4x100 team, which earned second place, despite Bailee McCulloch being unable to participate in the meet due to an injury, Lindsay said. Rebecca Cink took over the spot and did a good job, he said.
Eneas Caro placed second in the boys triple jump with a personal best of 38.10 feet. "He's progressing quite nicely," Lindsay said.
Matt Wakefield garnered second in the 200-meter relay, while Taylor Duncan earned second in the pole vault with a vault of 12.6 feet. Rebecca Cink finished in second in the 800-meter relay with a time of 2:41.60. In the 300 low hurdles, Rachel Cink placed in third and Slatyon earned second in the long jump. Cody Hoffman finished third in the 100-meter dash.
The Warriors have a busy week, with three track meets scheduled.
On Wednesday, the team heads to McKinleyville for a track meet.
Friday, 10 members will compete at the Chico Track Invitational.
The next day, the same 10 members will head to Yreka for the Yreka Track Invitational.
Lindsay said an additional six team members will participate in Yreka.
