Warrior girls come from behind to win first game of the season; Del Norte boys drop first two games in Yreka
The Del Norte High girls basketball team is halfway to matching its 2011–12 season win total at the Miners Invitational Tournament in Yreka.

The Warriors trailed by as much as 14 in their opening contest against tournament host Yreka on Thursday, but the Warriors stormed back in the second half to defeat the Miners, 58-53.
“I saw signs of being more aggressive, of playing together,” said Del Norte head coach Mike Ernest. “They grew closer as a team on the court.”
Brittany Maready led the Warriors with 26 points, and forward Kaitlyn Clemann (12 points) and point guard Taylor Cleland (10 points) chipped in with double-figure scoring performances.
“For them to come back and win was very big for us as a program,” Ernest said.
Del Norte faced Klamath Union High of Klamath Falls, Ore., in a Friday night game; the final score and statistics were unavailable at press time. The Warriors take on either St. Mary’s High of Medford, Ore. or Ashland (Ore.) High in today’s action.
The Del Norte boys found themselves on the losing end of their first two games of the season.
The Warriors began their tournament with an opening loss to Henley High of Klamath Falls, Ore., 56-39, on Thursday.
Del Norte’s next opponent was Mt. Shasta High, in a Friday contest. The Bears defeated the Warriors, 65-45.
Del Norte plays tournament host Yreka in its third game today at 10:30 a.m.
The Del Norte girls junior varsity basketball team plays today in a one-day tournament at Eureka High. The Warriors junior varsity boys are at Fortuna High today for a one-day tournament, while the Del Norte freshman boys basketball team has a tournament at St. Bernard’s Catholic High. The Warriors’ girls freshman basketball team is off this weekend.
